Dr. John Robert Nitzell was born and raised in Hagerstown, MD and graduated from St. James High School in 1989. From 1989 to 1993 he attended Roanoke College in Salem, VA. where he received a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in the field of History. He received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from University of Maryland in 1997. From there Dr. Nitzell spent 3 years in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he was stationed in San Diego, CA and did a general practice residency at Balboa Hospital. From there he was stationed in Virginia Beach, VA on the USS Ashland as the ships only Dental Officer. Upon completion in the Navy, Dr. Nitzell once again attended the University of Maryland in order to receive specialty training in the field of Periodontics and Dental Implants.

He returned to Hagerstown in the summer of 2003 to establish his practice. Dr. Nitzell is a board certified periodontist and is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society. He also is a member of the American Dental Association and is a diplomat of the American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Nitzell maintains current active licenses in the state of Maryland and Pennsylvania.


Dr. Bruce A. Winter attended the University of Maryland and received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland. After two years of practice in the United States Air Force, he went on to complete post-graduate studies in Periodontology at the University of Indiana where he earned his Masters Degree in Periodontology. Dr. Winter is a member and past president of the Washington County Dental Society. He is also a member of the Maryland and American Dental Associations, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Maryland Society of Periodontist and several dental honor societies including Gorgas and OKU. Dr. Winter has been serving the periodontal needs of the tri-state area since 1971.
